Nikhil A. Kumta is the Director of Surgical and Bariatric Endoscopy and an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Henry D. Janowitz Division of Gastroenterology at Mount Sinai Hospital. Dr. Kumta received his Doctorate of Medicine from Jefferson Medical College. He subsequently completed training in Internal Medicine (residency), Gastroenterology and Hepatology (fellowship), and Advanced Endoscopy (sub-specialty fellowship) at New York Presbyterian Hospital – Weill Cornell Medical Center. During fellowship, he obtained a Masters Degree in Patient-Oriented Research from Columbia University's Mailman School of Public Health.
Dr. Kumta is board certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. He specializes in pancreatic disease, biliary tract disease, pre-cancerous and cancerous lesions of the gastrointestinal tract, surgical endoscopy, and endoscopic management of obesity. He has special interests in minimally invasive endoscopic procedures and device innovation. His research is extensively published and has been presented at numerous national and international conferences.
