From more than 15 years, Alessandro Vitale completely dedicated his clinical activity to hepato-biliary surgery and liver transplantation fields. In particular from 2000, he worked at the Hepatobiliary surgery and Hepatic Transplantation Unit of Padua-University Hospital, where he achieved specialization in General Surgery (Full marks with honours: 70/70 cum laude) in 2005, PhD in Surgical Sciences and Technological Applications at University of Padova in 2009, and stable position as staff surgeon from 2010. In 2011 he became Fellow of the European Board of Surgeons (FEBS) in Liver transplantation and Donor operation. In this period he also dedicated a lot of time to scientific research and to international congresses.
He won more than 20 awards in International Congresses: in particular he won a “young investigator award” and a “travel award” at the ESOT congress in the 2007 and 2011 respectively, two “rising star awards”, one travel award and one young investigator award at the ILTS congress in 2011, 2013, 2012 and 2015 respectively, three awards for the best italian liver transplant or hepatologic publications. He associate editor of 2 international hepatologic journal. He had more than 150 oral presentations or invited lectures at international congresses. He wrote more than 115 publications of full-length papers in international journals with a total impact factor higher than 500, h-index 28. In 2013 he achieved the Italian scientific certification for Professor in General Surgery.
His clinical and research interests are hepato-biliary tumours, organ allocation science, survival analysis (after resection, transplantation, non surgical therapies), construnction of Markov models and cost effectiveness analyses.
